The cost of dental implants isn’t usually covered by insurance companies due to being considered a cosmetic procedure. So, you’re usually expected to pay upfront or rely on the practice’s finance options and payment plans.
While they can be used to improve the appearance of the teeth, it is uncommon for patients to choose dental implants solely to create a beautiful smile – given the invasiveness of the treatment.
As such, more providers have changed their stance and have introduced insurance for dental implants. Read on to find out which insurance provider you can consider for funding your dental implant treatment.
Which insurance covers dental implants?
It is important to note that while some insurers are now offering premium insurance for dental implants, crowns, bridges, and other more complex treatments, they are still unlikely to cover 100% of the treatment.
Similarly, you will likely need to be a member and pay your premiums for a certain amount of time to be eligible.
Providers include:
‘[…] You can get this after three months of being a member. We have a limit of £1,000 per person per plan year. Within this limit, we’ll pay a maximum of £500 per person per year towards the cost of crowns, bridges, dental implants, inlays and onlays.’
‘[…] insured dependants (at an additional cost) help with the cost of both minor or major dental care such as check-ups, hygienist visits, fillings, crowns, and even dental implants (not available on all policies).
‘Such as fillings, crowns, or implants. We’ll pay 80% of the costs, up to £400 each plan year.’
How much is dental insurance?
The cost of dental insurance can be difficult to generalise as it is based on a number of factors:
- Your personal information and medical/ dental history
- The provider
- The level of cover chosen – most dental insurances are tiered to allow customers to choose their preferred insurance allowance per year. Most insurances that include dental implants will be on a higher tier, with higher premiums.
As such, you will need to apply for a personalised quote from each provider to receive an estimated monthly or yearly insurance cost.
The good news is, although that sounds time-consuming, most providers now offer an online quick-quote form which involves fewer questions than you might imagine.
Once completed, a customer service representative will get in touch to discuss your quote and at this point, you can highlight your needs, particularly relating to finding insurance for dental implants.
It’s recommended you reach out to a couple of insurance providers to find the most appropriate one for you and a quote that meets your budget.
