At Marylebone Implant Centre, we offer professional dental hygiene services to cater for each patient’s particular needs.

Keep Your Teeth and Gums Healthy

At Marylebone Implant Centre, we offer professional dental hygiene services to cater for each patient’s particular needs.

The usual hygiene treatment frequency is once every six months. However some patients, depending on the condition of their mouth, will require more regular appointments. Our implantologists will work alongside the hygienist to decide on the best treatment plan for you with regard to this.

Catriona, our dental hygienist knows a scale and polish is more than just a cosmetic procedure. Her sessions are an absolute must as part of good oral health. First and foremost, these appointments are the main weapon against gum disease. She will also remove stains and discolouration and can advise on tooth whitening. Catriona is patient and understanding and pays careful attention to detail. She is extremely good at educating patients on ways to improve and maintain good oral health.

Hygiene Treatment at Marylebone Implant Centre

The main process of our dental hygiene treatment is to undertake a routine scale and polish of the patient’s teeth, using a combination of hand & ultrasonic-type instruments in order to clean stains and remove build-up of tartar.

Gingivitis is a common risk-factor that can arise from poor hygiene. It is caused by a build-up of plaque around the mouth, especially around the gums, causing inflammation and resulting discomfort. Affected patients may find that bleeding may occur while brushing their teeth and/or eating hard foods.

Thankfully, this condition is reversible and our hygienist will advise you on how to resolve it as part of your treatment. If left untreated, a case of Gingivitis can develop into more severe complications such as Periodontal Disease.

At appointments, the patient’s oral hygiene levels are assessed and any advice required is given. Some suggestions may include:

  • The adoption of an electric toothbrush in your dental hygiene routine.
  • Regular brushing of teeth.
  • Flossing
  • Use of interdental Tepe brushes

All Treatments are Performed by Fully Accredited Professionals

Dental Hygienist FAQs

Why are dental hygienists worried about gum disease?

Gum disease, or periodontitis, could be described as the arch-nemesis of dental hygienists in London and across the UK.

If left untreated, this serious gum infection damages the soft tissue and bone that supports the teeth, leading to loosened or lost teeth.

Once they are lost, natural teeth will need to be replaced with alternatives such as dentures or dental implants – treatments that can be costly and time-consuming in and of themselves.

As such, the best way to retain your natural teeth and keep your smile shiny and white is to see our lovely dental hygienist Catriona. She can help you with removing tartar and plaque, which can lead to gingivitis and eventually periodontitis.

Can children come in for appointments with a dental hygienist?

It is absolutely essential that children get used to visiting dentists and dental hygienists in London from an early age, for a multitude of reasons, including:

  • Preventing decay, identifying oral health problems early, and treating them before they worsen.
  • Encouraging comfort in the chair – reducing the chances of children developing fears of the dentist.
  • Allowing for the healthy development of the mouth and teeth – reducing the likelihood of adult teeth growing crooked or out of place.
  • Good oral hygiene is taught early on – making the continuation of these habits more likely in later life.

For double or family appointments so we can see you and your little one/s in a single visit, reach out to the clinic today by giving our friendly team a call or emailing us so we can book you in.

I’ve lost some of my teeth – do I need to see a dental hygienist?

Whether you have few remaining natural teeth or none, it is very important that you keep coming into the clinic to see our dentist and dental hygienist team.

Our dental hygienists in London and the South East will conduct a detailed visual examination, followed by a scale and polish to remove pockets of plaque, tartar, and staining on the remaining teeth, while also cleaning any dentures or implants you may have to replace your missing teeth.

They can also offer advice that can extend the life of treatments and remaining teeth and check the fit of any removable devices, like dentures, to check they still fit well and feel comfortable in the mouth.

If you haven’t been to see a hygienist or dentist for a while, you may be nervous, and we understand this. Our non-judgemental, person-centred care will help you feel confident and improve your remaining smile – making you feel like a whole new person.

So, come see us when you are ready – to arrange your consultation, you can fill in the contact form at the bottom of this page or call our understanding reception team on 020 3434 2934.

Can at-home tools replace visits to the dental hygienist?

With the rise of at-home ultrasonic tooth cleaners and plaque removal kits, you may be wondering if you can invest in these and skip your appointments.

However, while they may be very affordable, these tools don’t come with the expertise that comes from years of training and experience treating patients.

Another important thing to consider is that you will only be able to clean the front of the teeth and gums, not the back – which leaves you open to missing large sections of plaque and staining, which can still affect the general health of the teeth.

These tools are best used in between regular appointments with our dental hygienists in London, extending the results of your professional cleaning and allowing you to keep your smile fresh, white, and shining for longer.
