White Fillings at Marylebone Implant centre

Even if you don’t have fillings, White Fillings, you have probably seen someone’s teeth with fillings before. One of the more common types of fillings is silver amalgam fillings.

There are also fillings that are white and they are called white composite fillings. Besides the appearance of these two different types of fillings, there are other differences.

Dentists should always offer you a choice of the two types of fillings. They should not make the decision for you. Many patients choose to go with white composite fillings for a few different reasons.

Some feel that the mercury in silver amalgam fillings is hazardous, and some just feel that silver fillings look like a more dated type of filling. They may also believe that white fillings look better than silver fillings.

There are some benefits to white fillings besides the way they look. White fillings bond to a patient’s teeth so they are able to help restore some of the original strength of a tooth. Silver fillings tend to weaken a tooth and make it easier to break.

Since it is expensive to restore a tooth when it breaks, a white filling may end up saving a patient’s money over the long haul.

Another benefit of the white composite filling is of course the way it looks. A white composite filling is much more difficult to notice than a silver amalgam filling. It blends in with the other teeth in a person’s mouth so a patient may not be as self-conscious about their filling.

Although you can generally expect to pay a little more for a white composite filling, there are several advantages.

Keep these advantages in mind when you are discussing fillings with your dentist. Remember, it is often better to spend some money up front as a preventative measure than it is to fix something when it’s broken. This is especially true for your teeth.
