Teeth whitening brightens your smile and leaves a lasting impression. Marylebone Implant Centre offers highly effective tooth whitening treatments as part of our cosmetic dentistry range.
SAFELY IMPROVE YOUR SMILE
Tooth whitening is as simple, affordable and safe as ever. This cosmetic dental treatment is now controlled by the General Dental Council (GDC), the governing body of dentistry in the UK.
The GDC’s policy permits that tooth whitening is carried out by fully-registered professional clinicians only. The policy ensures the utmost quality and care of service; these guidelines make patients feel comfortable throughout treatment knowing they’re in competent, highly-trained hands.
What is Tooth Whitening?
Tooth whitening is a cosmetic procedure we offer at our London dental practice. It is a simple treatment that removes stains and discolouration from teeth using specialised whitening gel. The active whitening gel breaks tooth stains into smaller fragments, making stain discolouration less concentrated and brightening up the smile.
Long-lasting professional tooth whitening takes multiple applications to lighten the colour of your teeth and rid them of stains. Tooth whitening is meant for natural teeth and unfortunately does not improve the colour of existing crowns, veneers, or composite fillings.
What Causes Tooth Discolouration?
Teeth discolouration comes from either extrinsic or intrinsic stains. Extrinsic stains are the result of substances that build upon the tooth’s surface and intrinsic stains occur within the tooth itself. Tooth stains develop from a number of sources, including:
- Food and drinks. Certain foods, like curries, or drinks, such as coffee, have intense colour pigments called chromogens. These pigments attach to white enamel and discolour teeth over time.
- Tobacco use. Tar is naturally dark and nicotine turns into a yellowish colour when it mixes with oxygen. Constant exposure to these substances impacts the colour of teeth.
- Age. Over time, the outer layer of enamel on teeth gets thinner due to brushing. As the enamel erodes, the yellow-coloured soft area under the enamel, called dentin, shows through.
- Injury. If you are hit in the mouth hard enough, teeth may change colour. Teeth respond to trauma by laying down more dentin, which is a darker layer under the enamel.
- Medications. Side effects of certain medications, such as high blood pressure medicine, can cause teeth to darken.
Enlighten Evolution 3-step Tooth Whitening
We achieve excellent results with our patients using the UK’s leading tooth whitening brand Enlighten Evolution. Their brightening solution offers a combination of home whitening and in-surgery (chairside) tooth whitening. This product is a market leader in the UK. According to the manufacturer, it is the only one to guarantee a B1 shade, the brightest colour of the teeth shade scale.
Enlighten Evolution tooth whitening is simple. After the consultation, there are three steps to follow.
- Apply the treatment at home for 14 nights. We provide whitening trays with the kit and explain the process, making the at-home application of the whitening treatment uncomplicated.
- Book a short visit to our London dental office. Schedule your appointment at the end of the two-week home application. The in-office visit takes less than an hour to complete your whitening treatment.
- Follow the top-up regime as recommended. The effects of Enlighten Evolution can last forever as long as you follow the at-home top-up regime. For the first year, you need to top up once every two months. In the second year, top-up once every three months. In the third year and beyond, top-up once every six months.
Teeth Whitening Starts With a Consultation
You need an examination before commencing teeth whitening treatment. At your initial MIC consultation, we assess your dental condition. Prior to treatment, our clinicians recommend that patients have an appointment with the dental hygienist, ensuring optimal tooth whitening results.
