If you participate in any contact sport you are at risk of injury and damage to your teeth. To prevent damage to your teeth you should get a mouthguard made (this can be done professionally); a mouthguard is a rubber shield that fits over your teeth and gums and gives protection.
This is designed for your mouth and teeth alone and cannot be shared. As children grow they will need to change their mouthguard as their teeth change and mature.
Custom-made mouth guards can prevent damage to the jaw, neck and even the brain – helping to prevent concussion and damage caused by a heavy blow. If you do get a tooth knocked out, if you can find the tooth and it is clean, put it back into the socket yourself. If you can’t put it back, put it straight into a cup of milk or keep it in your mouth.
Get to your dentist as soon as possible, a dentist may be able to put the tooth back and in most cases if this is done fairly quickly it is a successful procedure. You may however need treatment in the future.
Prevention is the key!
