Full Mouth Restoration

We always hope that our teeth will last our whole life – however, that doesn’t always happen. When all of a person’s teeth fall out, they may feel they have no solution other than to invest in dentures.

That is simply not the case. There are now many options that patients can choose from, taking their particular needs into consideration. These treatments include:

  • Full-mouth fixed bridges
  • Implant-supported overdentures
  • Full-mouth dental implants

Restore Your Smile at Marylebone Implant Centre

One of the most popular ways to restore you smile is a dental bridge.  This solution is used to fill in gaps, using implants to keep your bridge or prosthesis in place.

A full-mouth fixed bridge not only provides a natural smile – it supports the patient’s facial structure, which can be aesthetically compromised by missing teeth. This option is considered by dentists only if there is enough tissue and gum in a patient’s mouth to support the arch.

Benefits of a dental bridge, include:

  • Natural looking solution for tooth loss
  • Restores chewing and speech function
  • Prevents tooth shifting on either side of missing teeth
  • More economical treatment option

A full mouth fixed bridge is not an option for every dental patient, with plenty of patients also considering implant-supported overdentures and full-mouth implants, which both use titanium dental implants to secure the options in your mouth permanently.

If you are interested in getting a full mouth fixed bridge or any other smile restoration solution, you should book an appointment with us to learn if you are a candidate.

What if a full-mouth fixed bridge isn’t an option?

In cases where patients have complex dental circumstances, including the loss of bone and cheek or lip support, alternative tooth restoration solutions need to be found – in this case, an implant-supported overdenture will be recommended instead.

What is an implant-supported overdenture?

An implant-supported overdenture is a full-mouth rehabilitation treatment option for those with the most complex dental cases.

By placing (usually) four dental implants, we can secure a custom-made overdenture to replace the missing natural teeth. This provides resistance and facilitates attachment to the implants, helping a denture-solution become a permanent solution.

Benefits of overdentures include:

  • The aesthetic benefit, which will allow the restoration of a natural-looking smile
  • It is virtually fixed, being immovable while the patient is eating or speaking
  • The overdenture is easy to maintain, with similar oral hygiene capabilities to natural teeth
  • Typically, overdentures cost less than full-mouth fixed bridges

Permanent full dental implants can restore your smile

If you have good levels and quality of bone but have tooth loss, you will likely be a good candidate for full dental implants.

This solution uses Straumann-brand dental implants to secure multiple implants or a full arch prosthesis, depending on your needs.

Full teeth replacement

Full dental implants can be fitted immediately, on surgery day, or at a later date after the mouth has healed and the dental implants have fused with the jaw.

Benefits of full dental implants include:

  • A variety of dental implant options, from a single to a whole arch of missing teeth
  • Natural looking solution to missing teeth
  • Long-lasting solution that can remain strong for years to come
  • Can be fitted with a crown or prosthesis on surgery day or at a later date

Only the highest quality, most durable materials are used in our smile restoration treatments

At the Marylebone Implant Centre, we pride ourselves son using only the most long-lasting materials in all of our smile restoration treatments.

For example, our full mouth fixed bridges over dental implants are made of porcelain, while many other practices use materials such as acrylic.

Using porcelain can result in a more realistic appearance and feel, making it highly advisable in the process of full-mouth rehabilitation.

The advantages of porcelain crowns include:

  • Very durable construction
  • Natural appearance
  • High biocompatibility
  • Helpful with mouth and jaw alignment

Similarly, our implant-supported overdentures and full-mouth implants use a range of high-quality, high-performance materials to give you a stunning, natural-looking smile that will stand the test of time.

3Shape TRIOS Scanner: Simplifying the Dental Implant Process

We at Marylebone Implant Centre are very proud to announce the addition of 3D scanning and CAD/CAM software to our practice.

This cutting-edge technology will be used by our clinicians to scan teeth and implants, effectively replacing the traditional process of putty impressions.

As a result, the procedural planning stage is far more efficient, ensuring highly accurate & detailed implant treatments.

Full mouth dental implants London FAQs

How are full-mouth dental implants different from implant-supported overdentures?

An overdenture is a type of denture fixed to the jaw using a number of dental implants, instead of glue or adhesive strips.

Full-mouth dental implants, however, are generally constructed from a number of dental implants, traditionally 4 or 6, topped with a dental prosthesis that discreetly and quickly replaces a whole arch or jaw of missing teeth – reducing the need for a large number of individual dental implants.

Both systems use as few dental implants as possible to hold the prosthesis in place while keeping it secure and steady. However, implant-supported overdentures are considered the best option for patients with loss of bone and tissue (and can be more affordable, too).

For more information on which solution is best for you, contact the experts at Marylebone Implant Centre. You can call us on 020 3434 2934 or fill in the contact form at the bottom of your screen and we’ll be in touch as soon as possible.

Are full-mouth dental implants suitable for any age group?

The good news is, there is no upper age limit for full-mouth dental implants.

This means no matter whether you are approaching middle age or enjoying your golden years, as long as you have sufficient bone density and quantity of healthy gum tissue, you will be eligible for a full-mouth restoration.

For our youngest patients, it is essential that they finish growing before we replace their missing teeth using implants. For most teenage girls, the facial development process will be completed by age 16, while for teenage boys it can last until they are around 18.

While these ages are approximate and may differ for each teenager, your expert dental professional will use radiographic imaging to be sure that growth has finished before beginning the process.

If you or a loved one has questions about the full-mouth dental implant process, reach out to us today to get those questions answered. You can email us or give our friendly team a call so we can set your mind at ease.

Am I suitable for full-mouth dental implants?

To be suitable for full-mouth dental implants, patients need to have two things:

  1. Sufficient tissue, including appropriate levels of bone density and healthy gum in the mouth to support the implants.

Without sufficient amounts of bone and gum, your dental professional may struggle to suitably anchor the dental implant in the jawbone – leading to failing implants.

To assess your suitability, dentists will complete X-rays and CT scans as part of the consultation process.

  1. Freedom from conditions such as gum disease, bruxism (tooth grinding), immunodeficiency, and (in some cases) diabetes.

All of these conditions can have a harmful impact on dental implants, so it is essential that you tell your dental professional about them during your consultation. Gum disease destroys healthy bone and gum, removing strong anchors for dental implants, bruxism can cause damage to dental implants and the prosthesis, and immunodeficiency and diabetes can lead to slower healing and increase the risk and severity of infections.

By completing the scans and partaking in detailed consultations with our dental team, we can ensure full-mouth dental implants are the right option for you and fit them with greater success.

Are full-mouth dental implants removable like dentures?

Unlike dentures, which can be popped out when needed, full-mouth dental implants are fixed securely into the jawbone. After 3-6 months, they are permanently fused into the bone, thanks to a process called osseointegration.

While the implant could come loose due to extreme injury or dental trauma, as a general rule they are not removable.

Dental implant bridges and overdentures can be removed by your dentist for maintenance and replacement before being fixed back onto the implants, but you cannot remove them yourself, in the same way you would be able to take out dentures or false teeth.

This provides superior fit and stability and spreads the pressure of biting and chewing across the jaw evenly – removing the risk of slippage or soreness and allowing patients to enjoy a full and varied diet once again.
