Dental Implant Treatment are a great way of replacing a missing tooth or teeth. If you have a gap in your smile whether it be from an accident or a previous dental or medical condition that may have occurred then dental implants can be a much better alternative to conventional dentures or bridgework.
Dental Implants are fixed restorations therefore they are less likely to move around or fall out of your mouth at the most inconvenient of moments as a denture may do. Dental implants can give you the chewing ability you have always desired and for some people dental implants can completely and have changed their lives from having the confidence to walk down the street and being able to smile at someone to being able to eat all of those foods which once where forbidden
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are a titanium screw which is surgically placed straight into your jawbone (beneath the gum line) which is fixed and cannot move. The dental implants will act like roots (anchor)in your mouth which enables your dentist or dental consultant to construct and fit replacement tooth or teeth on top (i.e. an implant crown, an implant supported overdenture or a fixed implant bridge). Dental implants look and act like your natural teeth.
Dental Implants can not only improve your smile giving you back your confidence it will also give you a much better oral hygiene. Dental implants can also give you a better quality of life by making it easier for you to eat all of those certain foods that you have been avoiding therefore also giving you better nutrition.
The Dental Implant Treatment procedure is broken up into stages and normally takes approximately 3-4 appointments over a period of 3 months from beginning of the dental implants treatment to completion.
The first stage of treatment is to place the dental implants into your jaw, the dental implants are then left in situ for a period of 3 months to enable them to heal into your mouth and to integrate with the bone in your mouth before the final stage of placing the definitive dental restoration is placed.
During this interim period of healing and integration some patients do like to have a temporary restoration placed on top of the dental implants especially if it is in the front of your mouth but it is not always necessary. You could only be 3 months away from the smile you have always wanted!
