Screw retained VS Cemented Implant Crown

Screw retained VS Cemented Implant Crown

Screw retained V Cemented Implant Crown
Both these systems have their advantages and disadvantages and although I’m sure most dentists would prefer to use a screw retained Dental Implant Crown for the easy of removing the Dental Implant Crown and to eliminate the of using cement to secure the Dental Implant Crown, it may not always be possible and would depend on the angulations of the Dental Implant and abutment.
In some cases a Dental Implant screw retained Crown would not be possible due to the situation of the screw access being visible, although the screw head would be covered/masked using an amalgam composite, would not be acceptable for the final finish/look of the crown.
In these cases a Dental Implant cemented crown would be visually more expectable. Both these option “screw retained” & “cemented” Dental Implant Crowns have their own pros and cons, (for & against). The good news for the patients is, there is always a solution to the problem and the costs are the same, with both options give the patient excellent results if used in the correct way.

Some of the advantages and disadvantages of Screw retained

Pros: Easy to remove the Dental Implant Crown if need were to arise or retighten the Dental Implant Crown if it become loose
Cons: would depend on the angulations of the Dental Implant, access point of the screw maybe visually unacceptable. Can only be used is some cases.

Some of the advantages and disadvantages of Cemented Crown

Pros: Not dependent on the angulations of the Dental Implant, Visually looks just like a normal tooth and can be used universally in all cases.

Con: Can be difficult to remove the Dental Implant Crown if the need were to arise and could leave a residue of cement that could affect the soft tissue around the crown, if not cleared.

In both cases Screw retained Dental Implant crown or Cemented Dental Implant crowns it’s recommended that the patient has regular yearly checkups with their dentist, with at least a 6 monthly visits to a hygienist to make sure the oral health of the patients mouth and teeth including crowns, veneers, bridges and Dental Implant crowns are maintained and any oral health problems spotted earlier.
